Leh Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

The small town of Leh is located in the district and is the capital city of Ladakh. The region is the heart of the district. It is a popular tourist destination. The well known Leh Palace which was constructed by King Sengge Namgyal is situated here. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 27,513 people. The Leh assembly constituency is a part of parliamentary constituency of Ladakh. The constituency is the stronghold of INC. Nawang Rigzin, candidate of INC won the assembly elections of 2008. He was victorious over his rival Thupstan Chhewang, an independent candidate. Rigzin received 19008 votes over Chhewang’s 17485 votes.
