Election Commission of Mizoram

 
Mizoram was earlier a part of Assam. It was spilt from Assam to form a new state after the people residing on the Mizo hills demanded a separate state for them in 1987. It was small state with just a population of about a million. It has the minimum number of seats that are required to form a legislative assembly.
 

History of Mizoram Election Commission

 
The State Election of Mizoram was formed by the State Government in 1992. The main reason to form such a commission was to ensure that the state should be able to conduct fair elections according to the guidelines of the Election Commission with transparency.
 

Chief Electoral Commissioner of Mizoram

 
The current Chief Electoral Officer of Mizoram is Mr Ashwini Kumar. He was an IAS officer who had a BE degree from IIT Roorkee and Masters Degree from Stanford University.
