Assembly Constituencies of Haryana
Haryana raised a separate State on The 1st of November, which was a result of the “Punjab Re-Organization Act of 1966.The capital of the State of Haryana is Chandigarh. The Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and the secretariat reside in Chandigarh. Being a union territory, Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab also.
The Vidhan Sabha of Haryana is Unicameral, which means that it is a representative from of government with one singular Legislative Assembly. When the Vidhan Sabha of Haryana was created, it consisted of 54 seats out of which, 10 seats were reserved for Scheduled Castes. On 1st March 1967, Under the Section 73 of the Representation of the People Act of 1951, the numbers of seats were increased to 81 members. The seats in the Vidhan Sabha were further raised to 90 members of the Legislative Assembly in 1977, which included 17 reserved seats.
There are no nominated members in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha and it consists of 12 permanent Houses or Committees. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly is of 5 years and the three sessions of the Vidhan Sabha are Budget, winter and Monsoon.
The first Haryana Legislative Assembly election were held in 1966.The term of the 12th Assembly ends in October 27th , and hence the 2014 elections will be held by the end of the year. The major political parties of influence in the state of Haryana are Indian National Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal. Bharatiya Janata Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Haryana Janhit Congress have a stronghold in the State. Congress has won the Vidhan Sabha elections in the State 7 times. Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the Chief Minister for two terms consecutively.
The Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) and the BJP-led NDA have formed an alliance. In January 2014, Inderjit Singh joined the BJP after being the MP of INC for three terms . Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is to contest all the 90 assembly seats in the State. It is believed that the State may witness INLD resurgence, because they are strong in Haryana Vidhan Sabha elections. Hence, it might brew trouble for BJP.
