Sopore Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Sopore which is called as an apple town is part of Baramulla district. During 800 CE the city was found by Suyya the Utpala engineer and irrigation minister and so it is called as Suyyapur. The population of the city is 58,416 according to the census of 2001. The town comes under Baramulla parliamentary constituency and the present MLA of the constituency is Mohd Ashraf. He managed to get 4368 votes against his opponent Abdul Rashid Dar’s 3304 votes.
