Hiranagar Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

The town of Hiranagar is situated in the Kathua district of Jammu & Kashmir. The town of Hiranagar was formed by Raja Hari Singh. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 7879 people. The Hiranagar assembly constituency belongs to parliamentary constituency of Udhampur. The constituency is reserved for the people of Scheduled Castes. The seat of MLA has always been occupied by either candidates of BJP or INC. Durga Dass, candidate of BJP won the assembly elections of 2008 and is the current MLA. He was victorious over his nearest rival, Prem Lal, who was an independent candidate. Dass received 19730 votes over Lal’s 16993 votes.
