Kangan Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

The town of Kangan is situated in the Ganderbal district of Jammu & Kashmir. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 94874 people. The Kangan assembly constituency is a part of parliamentary constituency of Srinagar. The constituency has been the bastion of the National Conference. The NC has occupied the seat of MLA since 1996 and Mian Altaf Ahmed has been the MLA since the year 1987. He won the assembly elections of 2008 by besting Bashir Ahmad Mir, candidate of PDP. Ahmed received 19210 votes over Mir’s 11495 votes.
